On February 22nd, the world of alternative music lost an elder statesman with the passing of Mark Lanegan, lead singer of proto-grunge phenoms The Screaming Trees due to complications from Covid-19. Lanegan is best known for the song “Nearly Lost You”, which gained significant attention after being included on the soundtrack for the movie Singles. Lanegan was also a member of Mad Season, Queens of the Stone Age, The Gutter Twins, and had recorded several albums with Isobel Campbell of Belle and Sebastian fame.
On Friday March 25th the music world lost one of its most joyful stars, and one of the greatest, and most admired drummers of this century, with the passing of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins had been with the band since 1996 and had previously been the drummer for Alanis Morisette in addition to fronting his own band, Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders. His death has reverberated through the music world with tributes coming from across the music world from artists and fans alike.
