Doc and Greg explore the influence of Jamaican reggae on music from the UK and the US. Following its export from Jamaica and its rise in popularity in other anglophone nations, especially the UK and the US, reggae went being from music made primarily by black artists to music which is enjoyed mostly by whites.
We discuss Reggae’s influence on punk and New Wave, R&B in the US, and punk and ska during the 90s. We also discuss Reggae’s adoption by stoner culture, and explore why it is not more popular with American born black music lovers.
